This was one of my favorite quotes on Facebook the past week or so. Why? Because it was one of those ‘let’s look at life differently’ kinds of prompts. And because I can be highly self-critical, I tend to spend way too much time focused on my mistakes and foibles. The idea of obsessing on what I love and appreciate about myself tickled me!
Okay, I’m not really an advocate of obsessing over anything, but what shift might happen if rather than focusing – obsessing even – on the things you don’t do well, or the things you don’t like that much about yourself, you spent some time every day focusing on, maybe even celebrating, the good stuff?
If you’re like me, I bet it would be a game-changer!
Has a coach or mentor ever given you the assignment to make a list of some of the good things about yourself – and you struggled? Oh, yeah, the crummy things seem to flow like water, the positive things seem harder to come up with. We’re just unaccustomed to self-acknowledgement. We may even get caught in old stories – when self appreciation or acknowledgement was labeled ‘bragging on yourself.’
For those of us who are more sensitive, we often picked up on the criticisms and took them to heart. That probably kept you ‘safe’ as a kid. Now, as a sensitive adult in this world, it’s important for you to let your light shine. Your light makes a difference! (Can you feel a little ‘yes!’ in your heart space?)
You can learn to release your grip on the self-criticism you’ve been accustomed to in favor of self-appreciation. You can find little ways to love on yourself!
You might start by finding simple things that make you smile or that tickle or delight you in some way. And then take some time just relishing that feeling.
Just the other day, I happened on another Facebook find – a video that made me smile and inspired me. Since then, I’ve been humming the tune and bopping around to it. Yes, the video started it, but I LOVE that I can be so easily inspired and feel such delight in the simple things! Here’s the link to the video:
What simple things in your life delight you? Will you celebrate the beautiful light that you are, just because you can feel delight in simple things?
I would love to hear what delights you are finding in your life. Please share what you’re discovering in the comments section below! YAY you!!
