You know those Hollywood movies where a vulnerable elderly person is influenced to change his will by someone who’d previously given that relative little attention? I was always a little shocked by those stories, thinking that those cases were probably pretty rare.
Boy, was I in for a surprise! I never dreamed it would happen in my family, but after my aunt died, a long-estranged relative quietly began influencing my lonely, grief-stricken uncle to change his trust and will, and to name her as the administrator of his estate, revoking everything that had been in place for over a decade.
When Uncle D. became gravely ill late last year, we were shocked to find that we had been removed from his emergency contact list and excluded from being notified as he fell into a coma and passed away.
Perhaps because my uncle had not been of the soundest mind, none of the changes were ever finalized, but there are now legal actions in the works to nullify the previous trust.
Never did I think I’d be involved in legal wranglings over an estate or inheritance! And my tendency is to want to just back off and not deal with the confrontation. But, I’ve been getting pretty clear messages that this whole situation is an opportunity for me to put on some ‘big girl’ panties and step up!
Pulling out the Toolbox
It’s also a great opportunity for me to use my spiritual tools and deepen my faith and trust that God’s got this handled and it will turn out just the way it’s meant to!
The tool I’ve been using most is calling on the Qualities of God – in particular Truth and Sovereignty, al Haqq and al Malik. I use these to strengthen Truth and Sovereignty in myself, but also to bring them to the situation as a whole and to the judge who will eventually be hearing this case. My feelings of fear and anxiety about legal matters are lessening, as my roots of faith and strength are deepening, even as I continue to grieve the loss of both my aunt and uncle.
I am grateful for so many things I’m learning through this experience – especially to have this practice of calling on the Qualities, which I love. Many of you have heard me speak of this practice and have been curious about the Qualities and how I use them in my life.
I’m excited to let you know that I will be offering a free webinar on Tuesday, January 26 to share about these Divine Qualities and how they can become a beautiful deepening of your own spiritual path.
I’ll be sending out details soon, but if you’d like to have a taste of these Qualities, click here to download a recording of one of these beautiful Qualities. – ar Ra’uf, the Compassionate. Ar Ra’uf awakens the strong, yet gentle love and healing.
