Especially in these trying times, it’s easy to see the negative in the world. It’s all around, bombarding us every single day, multiple times a day. Disasters, tragedies, and unfathomable acts are right in our faces and hogging up our focus.
What if we could clear our minds of the discouraging thoughts, the fear-filled thoughts, the “this world sucks” thoughts? Or at least find a few things of beauty and goodness that we can focus on instead, bringing them in closer so they’re occupying more of our attention and the yammering negativity has to move to the background?
Focusing on what’s lovely, beautiful, and good, the quiet things, when negativity is screaming in your ear is a challenge. But it helps us slow down and see things differently.
Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things. (Phillippians 4:8)
What if we could allow ourselves to see the world around us with less fear, less judgment, and more compassion (including for ourselves)?
What if we could begin to see all that is holy and all around us? Even in these trying times.
