“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open.” – Martha Graham
Can you appreciate your own uniqueness and value it as absolutely rare and precious?
How do you feel about the idea that if you block your precious energy and expression, or are unable for some reason to use it, that it will be lost to the world?
I think very few women intentionally BLOCK that unique expression, but many feel unable to allow it to unfold as it might. And I think that inability to let that expression be shiny and bright and full eats away at women, especially, little by little.
Each time you stop yourself from shining or spreading your wings, a little bit of your Spirit’s flow is diminished and it hurts. Your deep heart
and soul know what you can do – especially with Spirit’s help – and pinching off possibility is painful!
Keeping the Flow Open
Are you ready to stop adding to your own pain? Here are some simple keys to keep your flow open.
1. Get in touch with your ‘big why’ – the big vision, the big reason you really want to be that channel of your unique expression. Here’s something else Martha Graham had to say,
“Some men have thousands of reasons why they cannot do what they want to, when all they need is one reason why they can.”
Embrace your one reason why for yourself.
2. Become aware of some of the things you know that tend to pinch you off. Be conscious of how your body reacts to situations that
call for a bigger you.
3. Have a heart-to-heart with the God of your understanding, sharing what you hope for, your fears and doubts, your weakness, and
ask for help from Spirit.
4. Whenever you notice the beginnings of a crimp in the flow, stop for a minute, spill out the fears or doubts and ask for immediate help from Spirit. It may be an infilling of love or courage or strength. It may be a sudden new idea. The Divine is the Responsive (the Divine Quality al-Mujib), answering our every request. Just be willing to be surprised by the answer you might receive.
