Stop the Struggle! How Easy COULD It Be?
Recently, I was working on a project that wasn’t turning out as I had planned. Then I hit yet another little roadblock. Arrrgghh! At that point I stopped for a minute and just took stock of what was happening – not so much with the project, but with my body. My teeth were clenched, my upper body tight, and I felt a knot in my solar plexus.
I took a breath and shook my shoulders. Not all the tension went away, but I became aware of how much I was trying to push my way through the project – in a just get it done mode that clearly wasn’t working. In that moment, I had to laugh at myself – I was really struggling to have everything turn out the way I wanted it to – MY way – and maybe I didn’t need to be struggling quite so much. What if I could lean back and relax a little? What if I could breathe in and remember that God was present with me and had a bigger, broader perspective of what was going on. I was focused on one part of the picture – how I wanted (demanded?) everything to go – and in my struggle and frustration, I had blinders on and couldn’t see other possibilities, a bigger picture.
Fortunately, over the years, I’ve accumulated a great set of tools I can access at any time. Some of my favorite tools are the Divine Qualities – aspects of the Divine, like Love and Peace and Sovereignty. The Divine Quality that came to mind was Al-Qarib (in English it’s pronounced al kareeb), the Ever Present, Ever Near. I began to recite this name of the Divine (Quality) and quickly had an image of just being able to lean back into loving arms, into the care and guidance of the One who’s got my back. It’s so much easier, then, to let go of my grip on “how things are supposed to be” which makes such a huge difference.
Within minutes, I felt a big shift. It’s funny, because nothing about the situation actually changed, but I did! My attitude did. I became more open and relaxed and everything was a little bit easier. Since then, I’ve noticed many an opportunity to take a breath and let go of the stranglehold I have on my steering wheel of life. I don’t think of myself as a controlling or demanding person, but boy, am I getting little lessons every day of how much I want things to go my way – the way I THINK they’re supposed to be.
Do you ever catch yourself frustrated and struggling with something in your life? What if, in those moments of struggle, you could take a breath and lean back just a little – into loving arms that held you and your heart. What if different perspectives could come into play? What if you could know that things could work out just fine…better than if you continued to effort at doing things the way you had been. Forcing your way in a situation that might actually have a much better, more elegant solution, if you could relax just a little and see what other ways might be available.
Are there areas of your life that you feel trapped in or trapped by? Can you imagine the walls around you backing up even just a little bit, giving you just a little more room to breathe – and maybe see things you hadn’t seen before?
The good news is that there is a Divine plan for our lives, that’s in our best interest – and the best interest of everyone involved! (Despite our ideas to the contrary.)
Those grasping/demanding/struggling behaviors that we tend to seek out on our own often bring us less joy than we’ve anticipated. When we can let go, even just a little, we have access to more ease and grace and joy in our lives – a release from our bondage.
Do you recognize that letting go is a challenge for you? It has been for me! Using the Quality of Al Qarib has given me a gentler way to loosen my grip. I recently did a Soul Soak call using the Quality of Al Qarib. If you’d like to listen to it and receive that transmission, here’s the link: http://lovebeingyou.com/soul-
